Massachusetts is inching closer to licensing so-called “cannabis cafes” where individuals could smoke the drug in a communal setting – while also allowing for the home delivery of marijuana.
A panel studying the issues made several recommendations on regulations Wednesday which must still be approved by the full Cannabis Control Commission.
Massachusetts Triple A spokesperson, Mary McGuire, is on that panel and cites some reasons why their department is concerned about cannabis cafes.
McGuire says there’s a lot of unknown variables in the air that they’re attempting to combat, such as edibles where the high may take longer to take effect and when it does may be stronger than anticipated making the driver a threat to public safety.
The panel also recommended the state allow licenses for delivery-only marijuana businesses.
