SWAT team, DEA raid local business park

SAN DIEGO — DEA agents and a San Diego County Sheriff’s SWAT team descended on a Kearney Mesa business park for a drug raid Friday afternoon.

The operation started around 3:30 p.m. at a business complex on Ruffin Road near Aero Drive. Officers were seen detaining suspects, taking a circular saw into the building and carrying out what appeared to be marijuana plants.

A county hazardous-materials team was also called to assist with a possible butane hash- oil extraction laboratory, DEA spokeswoman Kameron Korte said. Butane, an extremely hazardous and flammable gas, is frequently used to extract THC, the active ingredient in marijuana used to make marijuana edibles and other cannabis-based products.

“Hazmat is on scene to ensure the safety of the scene as DEA continues our investigation,” Korte said Friday afternoon.
