Hiram Township couple admits growing marijuana – Record

RAVENNA — The case of a Hiram Township couple caught growing marijuana and making marijuana edibles in October 2017 has resulted in guilty pleas.

Joshua M. Payne, 39, and Kelly L. Payne, 38, of 7738 Tiolki Lane, both recently pleaded guilty in Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman’s courtroom to felony charges related to the Oct. 9 bust by the Portage County Drug Task Force.

Joshua Payne pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana, attempted cultivation of marijuana and attempted possession of marijuana, all fourth-degree felonies carrying a potential prison sentence of 18 months each. Three additional charges were dismissed, and he is being held in the Portage County jail on $35,000 cash bond, awaiting sentencing.

Kelly Payne pleaded guilty to a lone count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony, and is seeking drug treatment intervention, according to a motion
