Meet The Canna Nannas: Australian Grandmothers Offering Cannabis Cooking Classes To Retirees

While movements for cannabis legalization tend to be led by the younger crowd, there’s an advocacy group in Australia that’s run by and for seniors. They call themselves the Canna Nannas and they’re teaching retirees how to grow and cook with cannabis.

“Cannabis does for us what spinach does for Popeye,” one of the Canna Nannas, Gail Hester, told Honey. “We want to get that message that people who are in retirement, they will get a better life [by using cannabis].”

But since cannabis is illegal for recreational use in Australia, the Canna Nannas use other, more traditional herbs in their demonstrations. But things are changing. The hemp industry in Australia is gearing up for the introduction of hemp seed sales in the domestic market.

Hemp farmer Phil Warner says using cannabis products  in cooking is no different than any other food item.
