Hiram Township couple charged in October pot bust – Record

RAVENNA — Charges have been filed against a Hiram Township couple caught in October 2017 allegedly growing a large amount of marijuana and making marijuana edibles for sale on their secluded property west of Garrettsville.

Joshua M. Payne, 39, and Kelly L. Payne, 38, both of 7738 Tiolki Lane, were indicted earlier this month by a Portage County grand jury on charges including one count each of cultivation of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana, all third-degree felonies; possession of marijuana, possession of criminal tools and permitting drug abuse, all fifth-degree felonies.

On Wednesday, both pleaded not guilty to the charges at their arraignment in Portage County Common Pleas Court and released on their own recognizance by Judge Becky Doherty, who set an initial trial date for May 8.
